Reverend Sherita Moon Seawright Endorses Joe Biden for President

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 1, 2020

Alabama AME Leader Trusts Biden to Restore the Soul of the Nation

After Joe Biden spoke today at the Brown AME Church service commemorating the 55th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama, Reverend Sherita Moon Seawright, the Episcopal Supervisor of the Women’s Missionary Society of the 9th Episcopal District of the AME Church in Alabama released the following statement endorsing Biden for President of the United States:

“Scripture teaches me to believe that our country, like its people, are fundamentally good – put through great struggles and bouts of darkness, but also blessed with the faith to fight and overcome. In this presidential election, we face another key crossroads, when we must come together to use our voices and votes to stand against the petty forces of division that would make our nation bitter and small. On Tuesday, we have to vote for the one candidate with the character, coalition, and experience to call our whole country to conscience: Joe Biden. I know Joe, and so do you – he has been fighting beside us for decades. Joe has given his life to public service, to serving something bigger than himself. As a long-time senator and as Barack Obama’s trusted vice president, Joe has always fought for equal opportunity and justice. From expanding the Voting Rights Act; to getting weapons of war off our streets; to writing and passing the Violence Against Women Act, to get abuse and assault survivors the support and justice they deserve, Joe has worked to stand against the abuse of power wherever it’s found. Today, I know he is the one candidate with the experience and heart to bring our nation together to do big things – to strive for true equity in education and housing, to give every child and family a fair chance; to protect and build on Obamacare, so everyone can choose the health coverage that’s best for them; and above all, to heal the divided soul of our nation, and bring us together to start meeting our true potential to make the American Dream real for everyone.”

Seawright is a preacher, teacher, author, and community leaders who has led nonprofits and ministries across Alabama, Maryland, and abroad in assignments for the US Agency for International Development and the US Defense Intelligence Agency. Her husband, Bishop Harry L. Seawright, is the presiding prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District, which includes the entire State of Alabama, and serves as president of the Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Seawright joins Senator Doug Jones, Congresswoman Terri Sewell, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, Talladega Mayor Timothy Ragland, State Rep. Juandalyn Givan, and Jefferson County Commissioners Lashunda Scales and Shelia Tyson in supporting Biden, solidifying the Vice President’s endorsement lead in the Democratic field and building on his strong showing Saturday in South Carolina.

Biden for President has previously announced more than 1,400 endorsements from national, state, and local leaders, including current and former U.S. senators and representatives, governors, state elected officials, community leaders, and national security professionals.

Message from Episcopal Supervisor, Sherita Moon Seawright

Thank you for anything and all you did to make the YPD and WMS Quads positively memorable events. I was very nervous, but seeing the YPDers in action helped me much. I didn’t attend everything YPD; however, my time with them showed me an entirely new view of the YPD.

Thank you for supporting Cameron in his bid for Worship Leader. We, his family, are very proud of his being brave enough to take on such a challenge at 16 years old. Since he is a product of the “EVERYbody-Gets-a-Prize” generation, I talked with him about the importance of learning and knowing how to lose. He’s adjusting well and is preparing for what his family believes to be Priority #1: school.

Congratulations to Self-Denial winners, YPD high school and college graduates, and OPDers.
Thank you to Sis. Djuana and “Team YPD Directors”. Bro. Davon, you represented the 9th with excellence.

The WMS was an extremely different adventure. After listening to WMSers talk about how grueling the Quad could be, I had no idea how I’d survive a week of mandatory meetings. However, when God favored us with choice seating for our delegation, I knew I could trust God to bring me through the meeting.

President Bonner, thank you for your leadership and guidance. “Team WMS Conference Presidents”, thank you for staying at the top of your game!

Congratulations, Dr. Monica Dillihunt, our newly-installed WMS Historiographer-Statistician! You continue the 9th’s representation at the Connectional level.

Congratulations, Rev. Granville, on your receiving an “I See You” award.

To those who contributed, thank you for your contributions to Sickle Cell kits and AME SADA.

From, registrations to chaperones to observers to drivers to supporters, I am grateful for your ministries of service.

Thank you, Bishop Seawright, for allowing me to serve as Supervisor of the 9th Episcopal District, as well as your support at these meetings. Thank you, Shari, Matthew, and Cameron for your support.

Ninth District WMS, thank you for your financial support. Missionaries and YPDers, I pray I represented you well.

Just in case I missed you or your contribution, please know I appreciate everybody and everything you did from “Registrations” to “Benediction” and beyond.

Thank you Episcopal from President Susie Bonner

To the 9th Episcopal District Executive Board,

I pray all is well. Thank you for an exceptional year! To God be the glory for the Great Things He has done! I am looking forward to the series of Annual Conferences and now is a great time to start preparing your Annual Report for your commission or committee. As we attend the Annual Days, please attend with a purpose of gathering data for your reports. Each Conference President prepares her conference to give report of the years activities, this is an optimal time to collect your information.
All Commission and Committee Annual Reports are due to me by October 1, 2019. Please reach out to the Conference Presidents for information needed. If you can submit earlier, it would be greatly appreciated. As always, thank you for the work you do for the success of the 9th Episcopal District WMS.
