Susie was educated in the Jefferson County School System in Alabama.   She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Jacksonville State University.   She received a Parish Nurse Certification from Samford University.   Susie has been blessed to have more than one successful career.  For more than twenty years she helped many people to transition into homeownership in her role as a Real Estate/Mortgage Broker and owner of Sanders Agency Realty, Home Loans of Alabama and the Real Estate Institute.

Because of Susie’s caring and loving trait for the sick and under privileged patients she began her nursing career in 2005. Her areas of practice and expertise in nursing spans from critical care, cardiac telemetry, emergency and medical surgical patient care.  Her passion for patient care and the profession of nursing propels her motivation to promote the profession of nursing through service.  She has served through membership in the Alabama State Nurses Association, Coalition of Nursing Organizations, Founding President of the Montgomery Black Nurses Association, and community outreach chairperson for the Birmingham Black Nurses Association.  Also, she was nominated by the Alabama State Nurses Association to serve as a board member for the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Susie loves God and serves Him through the work of the church.  Susie is the President of the Ninth Episcopal District Women’s Missionary Society, this appointment and announcement was at the 9th District Christmas Celebration on December 12, 2016 at the Daniel Payne Community Plaza under the leadership of the Dynamic Duo, Servant Bishop James L. Davis and Mother Arelis B. Davis, Episcopal Supervisor.  Susie’s statement of how the 9th Episcopal District’s reaction to this appointment was “I believed the people were excited” Susie further stated, “She was honored to have received this appointment and pledged her untiring and dedicated service to the work and mission field of the Women’s Missionary Society.”   The focus for the 9th Episcopal District is “Bridging the Gap, community, healthcare, and literacy disparities.  This will transform lives, build communities and impact the world for Christ. Susie is also a member of The St. James Avondale African Methodist Episcopal Church where the Reverend Robert Turner serves as her Pastor as well as a former member of Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church (Birmingham, Al.).  At Grant Chapel under the pastorate of The Reverend T. Eric Nathan she served as a member of the board of Trustees. On the Conference Level she served as Conference Branch President of the Women’s Missionary Society of the North Alabama Conference that comprised over 40 churches.  Susie served the Lay Organization as local Director of Lay Activities and Northwest Conference Director of Public Relations as well as Co-Chairperson of the Health Commission for the 9th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church for the State of Alabama.

Through Susie’s community involvement, she has the opportunity to serve by collaborating with the Baptist Health System, Samford University’s Congregational Health Program, and the Office of Women’s Health State of Alabama Public Health. Susie was inducted in The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, serves on the Community Advisory Board for the University of Alabama Diabetes Research Center and has, received numerous community and professional accolades.

Susie is the wife of Mr. James C. Bonner Jr., (former President of the Ninth Episcopal District Lay Organization) she has two children Blake (Angela) and Angelica (deceased), and two grandchildren in which she adores Russell and Kameron.    Her motto is “If I can help someone along my journey, my living will not be in vain.”  Susie’s favorite scripture is Psalms 121:1-2 “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills from which comes my help my help come from the Lord who made the heaven and the earth”.
